&tradition Blown Pendant Silver

Blown sw3 pendant is samuel wilkinsons first lamp for & tradition. It is a pendant light made of elegant mouth-blown glass with a quilted pattern, with two versions to choose from. One is transparent with a subtle silver lustre and the other has an exciting sandblasted white matt surface.

The lampshade is intended as a playful exploration of the reflections, distortions and refractions a light source experiences surrounded by patterned glass. Wilkinson explains that it started with the idea of looking at the world through a kind of filter, inspired by antique ceramics, old glass pieces, lenses from very old lamps, lighthouses and even a mirrored bottle. The quilted surface has also drawn heavily on inspiration from seeds and berries, with raspberries at the forefront of the queue.

The production of blown is a quirky combination of industrial processes paired with traditional craftsmanship. The texture of the glass is created using computer-aided design (cad) to precisely control the inflation of each bubble. The craftsmanship leaves its deep mark through mouth blowing where shape and size are tightly controlled through the use of moulds.
